Levelling Program


This program is designed to respond to the diversity and individual needs of each student. Its implementation is grounded in two key strategies: gamification and the use of ICTs. The program follows a communicative and constructivist approach, enriched with STEAM-based techniques that shape its methodological foundation. Pedagogical mediation is flexible and student-centered, ensuring that each learner remains at the core of the teaching–learning process.
The program fosters the development of communicative abilities through meaningful, real-world learning experiences aimed at building lifelong skills. Additionally, it emphasizes essential employability competencies such as teamwork, negotiation, assertive communication, active listening, problem-solving, critical and creative thinking, and research skills. In this way, students not only work toward achieving an A2 proficiency band but also cultivate the soft skills needed to thrive as active citizens in Costa Rican society.
The program begins at a foundational level (A1) and gradually strengthens students’ abilities throughout their educational process. By sixth grade, learners demonstrate tangible progress and are prepared to successfully reach the A2 level, according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

General Objective
To enhance the basic oral skills of the English language in fifth grade students, through the application of gamification activities and ICTs, for the comprehension and use of basic expressions, through various strategies in order to obtain the A2 band according to the CEFR.
Specific Objectives
Understanding and following instructions in the English language.
Understanding basic expressions and sentences in the English language.
Understanding short conversations of everyday content in the English language.
Acquiring a variety of vocabulary to enhance the communication of ideas in the English language.
Expressing orally and writing ideas about everyday interactions at a basic level in the English language.
